Tissue engineering suffers from the lack of vascular integration within the engineered scaffold. A perfusion pump embedded inside the scaffold may help supply nutrients to engineered tissues until the vascular network is established. In this project, a pump with no moving parts will be designed to be implanted inside the scaffold: the pump would have a cavity that resonates with mechanical signals such as ultrasound for pumping. The student will design and fabricate such implantable pump with the guidance of research staff in the lab.
