Did you know that stroke and other neurological injuries/illness can cause swallowing disorders that make it difficult for people to safely share meals with their loved ones? The Sensorimotor Integration for Communication and Swallowing Lab is seeking undergraduate student researchers for a project examining the effects of various treatments that are meant to improve swallowing abilities in individuals with neurological impairments (stroke, traumatic brain injury, Parkinson disease, etc.) The UCARE student will have opportunity to participate in data analysis using the most current computational strategies related to database design, swallowing physiology, neuroimaging, and comparative statistics. Basic knowledge of medical terminology and/or swallowing physiology and communication disorders is preferred.
